Food Rescue
Rescuing surplus vegetables from Bulua Public Market and delivering fresh produce to hospitals, feeding programs, and community shelters across Cagayan de Oro.
About This Program
The Food Rescue Program collects surplus vegetables from Bulua Public Market every week and redistributes them to community partners who turn rescued produce into nourishing meals. What would have ended up as market waste instead becomes hospital meals, daycare lunches, and shelter dinners across Cagayan de Oro.
Each distribution run reaches a network of partners including J.R. Borja General Hospital, St. Ignatius Feeding Program, Carmen Daycare Center, Calabrian Children's Foundation, House of Hope, and others. Partner kitchens transform the produce into dishes like vegetable soup, stir fry, talong gisa, and sayote with chicken — feeding patients, students, and shelter residents who need it most.
Beyond weekly runs, the program supports larger community distributions — 320 food packs were delivered at events at Xavier and Pavillion in March and April 2026. The program is built on partnerships with the market, receiving institutions, and a logistics network that makes consistent rescue possible.
